Profile

I have developed software for more than 30 years. I work with Java and tools for static analysis and code coverage. I spent eight years working with Hadoop-based systems, seven years in software testing and quality assurance, and two years optimizing performance. In recent years, I developed tools for migrating Hive data and metadata between platforms.

I use Claude Code, Codex, and Devin to examine codebases, explore implementation options, and prepare changes. I make the architectural decisions and review proposed code before integrating it.

Technologies

  • Core technologies: Java, C#/.NET, Hadoop, Hive.
  • Development tools: IntelliJ IDEA, Devin/VS Code, Git, Jira.
  • Earlier project experience: BPEL, C/C++, Pascal/Delphi, PHP, JavaScript; HBase, ZooKeeper, Shark, Spark, Sqoop; Eclipse, FindBugs, YourKit, CVS, SVN, Bugzilla.

Professional experience

Unison / WANdisco (later Cirata)

2014–2026

Architect

  • Designed and developed HiveMigrator, a component of LiveData Migrator that replicates Hive metadata to AWS Glue, Azure SQL, Databricks, and Snowflake.

Senior Software Engineer

  • Developed the LiveHive plugin for WANdisco Fusion to replicate Hive Metastore metadata between data centers, supporting distributed data and metadata.
  • Built a customized distribution of Hadoop, Hive, Shark, Spark, and ZooKeeper tools. Contributed to approximately five major releases. Nokia used the distribution as a platform for its software deployed at multiple cellular operator sites and banks.
  • Fixed approximately 20 bugs in Hive, three in Hadoop, and around 10 in Shark and Spark. Submitted the fixes to the respective open-source projects, and all were incorporated into their codebases.

Siemens

April 2012–2014

Senior Software Engineer

  • Developed DataProvider for a Dutch project testing dikes and building sensor networks for early warning. The application combined a MySQL and web-services backend with an Eclipse RCP frontend.
